Le Alchimiste is the new major exhibition by Anselm Kiefer, one of the most influential and acclaimed artists of our time, internationally known for his monumental works exploring memory, history, and identity. The exhibition is hosted in the extraordinary Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale, and was conceived specifically for this powerful historic space.
Kiefer dedicates the exhibition to women alchemists, thinkers, and early scientists from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance — figures whose ideas helped shape Western scientific thought but were largely erased from history. Through more than forty large-scale, richly textured paintings, filled with symbolic and poetic references, the artist reflects on transformation, knowledge, and the creative force shared by both art and alchemy.
Immersive and deeply atmospheric, Le Alchimiste offers an accessible and emotionally engaging experience, inviting visitors to discover Kiefer’s universe in a setting where art, history, and space come together in an unforgettable way.
