Step into a world of dreams, myths, and radical imagination with our next Giro in Piazza tour: the Leonora Carrington retrospective at Palazzo Reale, Milan. This is the first solo exhibition dedicated to Carrington in Italy, and it offers a rare chance to explore the complex, poetic, and revolutionary universe of one of the great figures of Surrealism.

Born in England in 1917 and passing away in Mexico in 2011, Carrington lived across continents and traditions. Her work defies categorization: she was a painter, sculptor, writer, playwright, and an intellectual voice in feminism and ecology. Her art is populated with hybrid creatures, magical interiors, mythological allegories, and a constant dialogue between dream and reality.

On our guided visit, we will trace Carrington’s creative journey: from her early European influences, through her exile and life in Mexico, to her visionary work that anticipates many debates of our time — identity, ecology, feminism, and the spiritual imagination. The exhibition brings together over 60 works (paintings, drawings, archival materials, and even scenographic elements) from major museums and private collections worldwide. We’ll stop to reflect on her symbolic worlds, her personal mythology, and the emotional resonance of her visual language.
