About this giro
Unveil the rich layers of Milan’s history with a special tour that blends the grandeur of La Scala, the world-renowned opera house, with the gripping tales of Milanese revolutionaries during the Risorgimento.
Our giro begins in the stunning foyer named after legendary orchestra director Arturo Toscanini. From the private boxes, you’ll enjoy an exclusive view of the glittering stage, once the domain of Milan’s aristocracy. Here, we’ll explore the museum, home to a treasure trove of original librettos, musical instruments, and the exquisite costume jewelry worn by the great sopranos who enchanted audiences.
But there’s more to La Scala than music and theater. This very place was a hub for secret meetings and daring conspiracies. The boxes that once bore the coats of arms of noble families weren’t just for socializing—they were where the dreams of a unified Italy took root. Behind the opulent performances, Milanese patriots, inspired by the music of Verdi, were plotting to overthrow Austrian rule.
Stepping outside, we’ll walk the historic streets where the walls were once marked with the cryptic slogan "Viva V.E.R.D.I."—a coded message supporting Victor Emmanuel, future king of Italy. In this district, where fashion now reigns, discover the homes where revolutionaries, writers, and artists gathered to scheme against the powerful Habsburg empire. Along the way, meet famed novelist Alessandro Manzoni, hear of his encounter with Giuseppe Garibaldi, and marvel at the statue of Princess Cristina Trivulzio Belgioioso, a symbol of courage and patriotism.
